About Office Chairs Q&A

WHY HAVE WE CREATED OFFICE CHAIRS Q&A?

Like many other businesses with a web-presence, we find that most of the people who visit our websites leave after just a few minutes, potentially without finding what they were looking for. We want to turn the situation around. We want to satisfy a larger number of the people who visit our websites: whether you are visiting our office chairs shop in search of your next office seating or whether you are visiting our office chairs blog in search of information about office seating. Our latest step in the pursuit of this goal is the creation of this new Questions and Answers blog.

WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?

You may have arrived at this blog from clicking on a Questions and Answers link in our office chairs shop or on our office chairs blog, or you may have found us on a search engine. Whatever may be the case, you have probably come here because you are seeking answers to one or more questions about office seating. We would like to help you find those answers. We would like to help you even if your questions have nothing to do with office seating.

HOW WILL WE DO THIS?

In the begining this questions and answers blog will be empty. Please don’t let that put you off, because we intend for it to grow by you asking us questions and us giving you the answers.

  • Enter your questions as comments to this post.
  • We will be notified by email when you have asked a question, and we will answer it as a follow-up comment as soon as we can.
  • If you provide your email address when you enter your question, we will also send the answer to you personally in an email. We will NOT share your email address with anyone, neither here on this blog nor anywhere else on the internet or offline.
  • You can come back to ask questions here as often as you like. If you would like to keep any of your questions private just tell us, and we will not publish the question.
  • As you browse this blog, you are also welcome to give answers to other peoples questions as well as ask questions of your own.
  • Every question and comment will be moderated by us before it is published. Comments considered to be ’spam’ will be deleted and will likely not be answered.

WHERE WILL WE GUIDE YOU TO?

As a distributor and retailer of office seating ourselves, our answers will inevitably be biased in favour of the products and services that we offer. For example we may direct you to products in our online shop that have the features you are asking about. But our primary goal is to be resourceful and fair to YOU: If we do not have the information on our blogs or the product in our shops to answer your questions, we will guide you towards other reputable information and product sources that have the answers. For example, we do not sell Herman Miller’s Aeron chair, but we can guide you to good internet reviews of the chair and good internet retailers for it.

WHO IS THIS ALL ABOUT?

We hope that this questions and answers blog will grow very quickly. It is down to you and us together to help it do so. As it grows, we will start to move your questions and their answers from this general section into subject categories. The subject categories will be listed on every page so that they can be easily found by every visitor to this blog. That way, visitors will be able to browse categories to see if their questions have already been asked and answered by others.

The underlying purpose of this blog is to help your search for information about office seating. We want to help you make better-informed decisions whether your goal is to buy new office seating, make better use of the seating you already have, or improve the longevity of the seating you already have. We also hope that you will find your answers here if you want to sell office seating, manufacture office chairs or just write about them.

WHEN DID WE START THIS?

Happy browsing.

  1. Do you deliver to Spain? If so, what are the shipping prices of mesh office chairs?

    Thankyou,
    Anne

  2. Chair will not lock in upright position. It does not matter what I do with the lever on the right..

    What is your suggestion?

    • How to lock your chair in the upright seated position will depend upon the type of mechanism your chair is fitted with. This in turn can be determined in part by the number and location of the levers under the seat.

The lever to adjust the height of the seat is always located on the right (when seated), and towards the front if there is more than one lever on the right.

If your chair has just one lever (on the right), this single lever will adjust the height of the seat and also lock the backrest in the upright seated position. These are simple tilt/lock chairs. Pull the lever outwards away from the chair to lock the chair in the upright seated position. Push the lever inwards towards the chair to release the chair to rock back & forth. On some multi-lock chairs with a single lever, push the lever backwards to release the chair to rock back & forth, and push the lever forwards to lock the chair in any reclined position.

If your chair has two levers, one on the right & one on the left, the lever to lock the chair in the upright seated position will be the one on the left (when seated). These are knee-tilt multi-lock chairs. Push the lever downwards to lock the chair in any reclined position or in the upright seated position.

If your chair has two levers, both on the right, use the lever further back to lock the chair. These are permanent-contact backrest chairs (PCB chairs). Push the lever downwards to lock the chair’s backrest in any reclined position or the upright seated position. Pull the lever upwards to release the backrest to move with you as you lean backwards into the chair.

If your chair has 3 levers – two on the right and one one the left, you have an independent seat & back tilt chair (an ISB chair). Use the lever further back on the right-hand-side to lock the backrest as described for above PCB chairs. Use the lever on the left to similarly lock or release the seat independently of the backrest.

If your chair has 3 levers, with all 3 on the right-hand-side, you have a heavy-duty independent-seat and back chair (heavy-duty ISB chair). These chairs will hold weights of up to 23 stone and can be used in 24/7 round-the-clock environments such as in call centres. They may also have a seat-slide to adjust the seat depth for tall and short users. The lever to lock and release the backrest will be the one furthest to the back. The lever to adjust the height of the seat will be the one furthest to the front, and the lever to lock and release the seat tilt will be the one in the middle. Press the rear or middle lever downwards to lock the backrest or seat respectively; pull the lever upwards to release the backrest or seat.

Finally, if the lever required to lock the backrest is not locking it as it should, your chair probably has a faulty mechanism. The good news is that you probably do not have to throw your chair out because of a faulty mechanism. You can get the mechanism replaced relatively inexpensively (depending on if your chair is expensive or not!) Search Google for an office chair components supplier, or ask us at Chellgrove!
